ALPENHOF HOTEL
If you have corrections or additional information, stories and photos, please contact the webmaster.

The Alpenhof Hotel was located on Bahnhofstrasse near the Kurpark in downtown Garmisch. It was requisitioned by US Forces in 1945 and used as a hotel for enlisted personnel and civilians. In 1952 it was returned to its original owners.

Facilities during the AFRC era included the Casino Ballroom, orchestra and dancing, snack bar, grill room, bicycles, a barber shop, pool room, Pee Wee PX, the Olympic Bar and bingo.

In 1890, the town mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Karl Hohenleitner, built a "pension" (a type of bed and breakfast hotel) at Bahnhofstrasse 19. A new owner took over 1899, renovated the building and added the main wing of what would become the Alpenhof Hotel in 1904. A further expansion of the hotel occurred in 1910. In 1972, the hotel was torn down.
