Self-taken picture of me at my desk typing on a soldier's service record. One other personnel clerk and I shared this small office area. To my right was a doorway into a classroom-size area where the other battalion personnel clerks and the battalion personnel sergeant had their desks. The warrant officer in charge of us had an office across the hallway from our area. My area had tiled walls and floor; perhaps it was a latrine area when the Germans had occupied the buildings. In my opinion, the German Army (Wehrmacht) had built their facilities extremely well before World War II. Having lived in old wooden barracks at both Fort Ord in California and Fort Riley in Kansas, I was impressed with the German facilities..
