Google search for the 42nd Transportation Co.

Originally from Norfolk, VA currently living in Moyock, NC

My memory as along with the rest of me is fading. I was transferred to the 42nd Transportation Co.(DS) in November of 1966. Freshly trained L-19, OH-13, OH-23, CH-21, CH-34 and UH-1 out of Fort Rucker, AL. As I mentioned memory is bad but at this time the 42nd was based in Hanau Army Airfield about 20 clicks from Frankfurt.

Initially I worked out of the engine shop then moved around to all the shops and finally flight crew. I have two clear memories there. One of which was having a bad time with a as we called them then a Buck Sargent (E5) time I can't remember but we were bound to get into it and we did one night after he had sort of followed be to a local watering hole at which words and challenges were sent by myself any who the guys made me head back into the barracks. About two hours later here he comes into my room and needless to say we went at it with him receiving the worst. The other was spending three darn cold nights on top of a moutain inside a CH-34 that had lost the engine. I have one or two pictures of folks of which the names are flaky.

Anyone care to holler at me feel free willing to share the very few photo's I have. As the is a European website I was transferred to HHC 107th Transportation Bde. at Flak Kaserene outside of Stuggart. Like a dummy I got married to an Army WAC if any remember her name was Mary Jean Acker.

One more little thing if any of you were in ASA I was EVAC'd from HHC, USASAFS Asmara, AMEA to HHC, USASAFS Augsburg, Germany.

Give a holler got p[ic's from Asmara, Ethiopia

Ok enough of me boring you.

I want to thank you for the pictures. I was the Director of Radio City Recreation Center from Sep 1978 to 1980. As the Director of Area North Recreation Centers I was responsible for the planning the opening and supervising the operation of Lucius C. Clay Recreation Center. I had to travel between Carl Shultz and Clay by bus because there were no vehicles available. There was so much stress in running our own operations at CSK in addition to planning and manning Clay that my supervisor resigned and returned to the states early with his family. I applied for other positions in Germany and was accepted as the Director of the Coleman Barracks Recreation Center in Mannheim. I went from there to Fallon Naval Air Station, NV, back to Camp Greaves, Korea and then to Fort Knox, KY.
I returned Baumholder in 1989. I had the sad responsibility of closing Clay Recreation Center and then the downsizing of CSK. With the closing of the recreation center I was transferred to work for Army Community Service until I returned to the Fort Knox ACS in 1993. From there I went to Camp Zama, Japan, and then to Baumholder, GER from where I retired.

Excellent website! I had been stationed with the US Army in Germany three times. Unfortunately, the first tour started in 1993 and I did not get to witness the events of 1989-1990, but still...in 1993 it will nevertheless possible to see how things used to be before the re-unification.

I was stationed at Camp King from 1946 to 1948. Was wondering if anyone out there remembers me or anyone from my old Army unit? I was fluent in Polish. We were in building in mountains overlooking Camp King. Axis Sally was prisoner there! We used to play pool!

Looking for SP4 Bill Waddell, stationed at Pinder Barracks, Zirndorf, Germany, from 1963 to 65. Bill was assigned to S4, HQ Battery, 2nd MSL Bn 16th Arty, (HJ), he was from OHIO. He was transferred to Merrell Barracks, Nurnberg, in late 65. If any of you out there remember the 16th it was billeted between HQ 4th Armored Arty and 1st of the 22nd Arty (105's), next to the Parade Field. Some of the 16th HQ CC, were Capt. Milseck, Capt. Dewesse. The Motorpool CC was WO Wall. Enlisted SP4 Carl Heisey, SP4 Fred Haynes, SP4 Dan Roman, SP4 Frank Tamm. I was an RTT (05320) operator in the Comm Section and the Comm Chief was SFC White. I spent about 9 months working in the DivArty Message Center in 64 and the Code Room. Carl, Bill and I spent a lot of time at Cafe Bub, with Sophie! I know its been 45 years, but if any of you remember Bill, either from Pinder, or Merrell, let me know. Any help would be appreciated!! Bill would be 65/66 years old at the present time? At that time he was 6' 1'' tall, slim (as we all were then) Brown eyes, Blonde hair, with a grey streak in the front, crewcut. Leave a message if you recall anything on him, or his current location.

Thanks

Was lucky enough to be in W. Germany and other parts of Europe from 1961 thru 1972, seeing much of "free" Europe. The memories of the events of those years, the times & places we lived in, are incredible, and leave one feeling there are few who can relate - until seeing this great website. Spent 2 tours with family stationed at Kelly Barracks in Stuttgart, one at RB in Stuttgart, was at Downs Barracks in Fulda (and living in the Fulda Gap in the early 60's was high-tension - amazing that concurrent travel was allowed to that base, thank God it was!). Also was at Ansbach/Katterbach in early 60's, and on & on. I am looking for anyone that served or lived as a dependant particularly at Kelly Barracks from 1968-1972. Was sad to see VII Corps inactivated, as it seems I basically grew up under "the arch" there at Kelly. Met so many incredible people there in the 60's & early 70's, grew up on AFN radio & the smell of OD Army canvas and duece & a half smoke forever lingers in the nostrils - along with seeing Dachau & so many other things left from WWII. The Army offered things I could never have otherwise seen along with the hardships. In the early 70's, the things we longed for were a pair of Levi's, a pair of Adidas shoes, and of course, the Loden (sp?) coat that just about everyone bought while there. (Would give just about anything to find a way to get a new Loden coat today!) Thanks ever so much for this website! :)

I was stationed in Grossengstinger Germany from 1967 to 1969 with the 84th US Army Missile Detachment. Our unit had the Sargeant Missile warhead and the Germany Army support unit had the launcher. When I was discharged in 1969 I joined the National Guard and spent 26 years in a local helicopter unit. I retired from the Army Guard in 1993. I was drafted 2 months after I married my wife and when I finished AIT in Fort Sill OK. I was given my orders for my next assignment and was to be stationed in Germany. My wife had to wait 6 months then she came to Germany and we were there together for 12 months. We both treasure the time we spent there and have wonderful memories. Thanks to FACEBOOK we recently were reunited with a member of the 84th by phone, Tom Wisk, whom we had not heard from in over 20 years.
