As President, 42d MP Group (Customs) Reunion Association since inception in May 2004, I'm searching for any memorabilia of Group from its start in 1968 to shut-down in 1994. Our Association has held 3 reunions, the most recent last week in Branson, MO.

I was assigned to Field Office Schinnen, (The Netherlands), Border Operations Detachment, 42d MP Group (Customs) from April 1976 to March 1979. Last reunion we had 30 people attend to include LTC Zane Jones, CDR, 508th MP Bn, 42d MP Bde (our successor unit which reconstituted in late 2004). 42d MP Bde Command Group will be hosting us for our 4th reunion June 8-12, 2011 at Ft Lewis, WA.

He `s supposed to have returned to the United States by the end of 1964. It is very important for me to find him. If anybody remembers him or knows where he lives, please contact me and let me know. Thank you.

Lt. Col. Findlay F. Flatter (USA - RET) was my father. I understand he was assigned in Germany during the early 1950s. He retired from the Army in 1961, and had a second career in private hospital management until his second retirement in 1980. He passed away in 1989 in Memphis, TN at the age of 71. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. I am proud to be his son. May he rest in peace.

Mc intyre and Lt. donald falkins. and the 1st. sgt was john cushion ( top) one of the most experinced over 28yrs of service and the best in the business, a true and true soldier.the type they make movies about. i can,t say enough about him.just a great person all around... my duties included petroleum storage and shipments from several depots in germany..also in 72 and 73 worked TDY for USARGE approx six weeks each year for operation reforger.. this was probabley the high light of my service..we traveled alot, avery 2 to 3 days, we were at a new location.. and most of the time, staying either in hotels or guesthause. and no uniforms, we were told to wear civilian colthing. about the only time we wore our uniforms was the frist couple of days, while we were at the airbases, processing troops comming in from Ft.Riley Kansas.. it was a amazing operation to witness. and i must say i was one lucky person to be apart of a small detachment. that was the command stucture for the exersize..(2 yrs in a row).. would very much like to hear from anybody that served in the units ..my email is tomp255@gmail.com..best wishes to all who served.. tom poisson

By Chance

Do you have any comments?
Hello,

I found this website by chance while looking for a friend of my father's.

My father's best friend was in the US Army, and he was stationed in Neureut from 1986 to aproximately 1991. His name is Frank Delaney. (spelling ?)

My father expired in 1991 and Frank was present at his funeral. I was only 3 at the time this happened and only recently heard about this.

I would like to find out more about my father and for that I would need to contact Mr. Delaney.

I have unsucessfully tried to search for him on other websites and thought that maybe someone on this website knows him, or someone who knew him, which would make it easier to find him, or to at least get more information about where he can be now.

My mother does not remember much about Frank. Only that he was in the US Army, of african American (Trinidad&Tobago) origin. She thinks he was/is a teacher and thought he is born between 1956 and 1958. (He was about 40 when he was in Germany)

He was married to a German national (her name was Heike, and her maiden name, as far as my mother rememers : Boot. She was living in Rheinzabern) but separated when he returned to America. He also has a son who was born in the 80ies.

I thank everyone who could help me find more information about him and am looking forward to receiving your mail.

Best regards,

Vanessa Piepenhagen

Hi all,
I was stationed with the 116th ord co. at Merrell Barracks in Nurnberg Germany. I have many fond memories of my time in Nurnberg from 73 - 74. When I got to Germany in processing, they told us you never wanted to go to any city that ended in "berg". So I got sent to Nurnberg. A castle, the ChristKind Market, bier fests at the the Dutzendike (sp?). What a hoot, then I took some German classes from the U of Maryland and really got aquainted with the area. Luv to hear from any friends from around there.

I was stationed at the Stork Barracks from 1964 to 1966.
I was a gunner with the 4/35th Armor. Company B 3rd platoon,(belly buster) In 1965 my crew placed 2 nd in the division.(3000 tanks) in the TCQC in Grafenwoehr. My driver was a young man by the name of Donald Prudy, from Seattle WA., my loader was ? McDonald. My Tank Commander was Sgt. Skyler.
I was on a bus headed to Fort jackson to be sworn in for the Army when Pres. Kennedy was killed. I spent 9 weeks at Fort Gordon, 11 weeks at Fort Knox, then came to Illesheim. In 1964 I think there was only 900+- troops stationed there. In 1966 an Infantry battalion started moving in and pretty much took over.(a few thousand) I loved my time there , met some super good folks, met some that wasn't so good also.
I left there in 1966 went to Fort Lewis , to a Headquarters Committee Group. There , helped train AIT soldiers headed to Vietnam.
I'm 65 now an I'm looking forward to my retirement soon. Hope this finds every soilder well.

Thanks Bobby Revels aka catman

I was stationed at Downs Barracks, Fulda from '76 till '79, in the 15th Maintenance Company, 27th Maint Bn. We supported the 11th ACR, repairing all wheeled and tracked vehicles. Some names that I remember from back then: Tom "Cowboy" Burkes, Brian Howard, "Space Needle" Settle, Rodney Shreeve, DJ Pacheco, Fred Soto, John Vlanderen, "Buck" Buchanon, Boggs, "Taco" Hererra, Eagletail, Wyatt "Slurp", Jodi Payne, Keith Eckels

We had some really good times in Germany, drank a lot of beer, and griped about it a lot while we were there, but I came to appreciate it after I was gone. I met up with some of these guys at Fort Hood in '79, then I ETS'ed back home to PA.

I am an Army brat; my father was stationed in Stuttgart (Robinson Barracks) and then Goeppingen (Cooke Barracks), 1952-1956. These were some of my happiest childhood years; these locales were kid heaven. I went to Girl Scout camp each summer, and summer the girls were housed in a former German army barracks near Mittenwald. From surfing this site, I think that would hhave been the Gebirgsjager Kaserne / Jager Kaserne. Can anyone verify this? Activities included camping out, mountain climbing, excursions into the the town of Mittenwald, Neuschwanstein Castle, an evening at a local beer hall to see Schattisch dancing, and more. Wonderful website - thank you.
