My father was stationed in Germany several times. In the early 1970's he was at Augsburg and Zweibrucken, then Boeblingen. He came back to become the CSM of the Boeblingen Maintenance Facility in 1982, and I graduated from Patch American High School in 1983. In Boeblingen, we lived in the same building on this tour that we lived in during the early 70's - Bldg 3111. I hung out at the teen center over by the old stables and I worked at the new Panzer Gym from 1983 - 1985 after it was built (1982). I've enjoyed the old and current photos of RB, Patch and Panzer. I was sad to go to Google Maps and see that the old RB PX was gone - it was at the top of the hill across the street from that German restaurant. Man, I played some serious video games there. Thank you for posting all this information and the pictures - I have some I could add if you like. I am also looking for Marcus Watson, and two brothers - Ralph and Paul Vega - their father was Sgt Edmundo Nigaglioni.

He had a daughter Linda who was around 14 at the time (My best friend in those days) and also another daughter who was around 3 years old. His wife I believe was German but regretabley cannt remember her name They lived on Osterholder Strasse Appen 2081. I have been trying to trace Linda for some years now and would really like to trace her where abouts. The other names I remember that lived in by where the Solomns Fragners Coxes and Johnsons. All their children went to the International School Hamburg. Does anyone out there recognise these names? If so please contact me.

I was at Tompkins Barracks from January 1962 until July 1964, 541 Engineer Company (Float Bridge). I was a Bridge Specialist until I transferred to Supply as a Clerk-typist. I can't believe I haven't seen or heard from anyone that was stationed there then. Would be glad to hear from anyone that was stationed there at the time.

Great site Walter.

I served from 1968-1969 in the 78th Engr Bat at Rhineland Kaserne in Ettlingen... In the Special Weapons Platoon attached to HHC... and later as the NCOIC of Tng & Ops for C Company.

I served under Capt. Norman Nesterak in C Company. He was killed within a few days of transferring to Vietnam... leaving a wife and a newborn son. I'd be interested in communicating with anybody I might have served with in Germany and specifically interested in anyone who might have known "Capt Nesterk" as I've recently been contacted by someone from his home area who is interested in honoring him.

Cheers all... Thanks for your service!

I'm looking to contact guys who were stationed in 1952-1953 at the 7779 Central Material Agency (CMMA), Rhine Medical Depot, Einsidelerhof Germany. If you will run a web search (Yahoo or Google) on my name "Allen Kolons", you can click on the link to USAREUR units - Einsiedlerhof Medical Depot.
Scroll down below Section IV to read my short experience story and view my collection of 1953 photos of almost everyone there at the 7779 CMMA stationed at the Rhine Medical Depot. Be sure to click on the photos for closeups and showing the names of the staff. It's sure to bring back old memories.
I'm sending another batch of photos to Walter Elkins showing when we went on a boat trip on the Rhine River, and on the bivouac. This will surely touch you. Appreciate your email responses.

Great site! I was a 26V/32D that served on Patch Barracks @ DCS-Vaihingen from '82 to '87. I was also LTC L. Murphy's driver for awhile during that period. Loved my time there and made many friends. Still in touch with a few people (D. Montoya, T. Hight, J. Neuhauser, T. Price) but would very much like to hear from anyone who remembers me. Especially would like to find SGT James C. Smith (aka "Sam") whose last known duty was @ DCS-Karlsruhe and last known whereabouts were Manhatten, KS. We go way back to AIT and he was the best man at my wedding in '84. Others from DCS-V/Patch that I cleary remember: D. Hayes, D. Dokes, E. Martinez, R. Sullivan (Sully), T. Whelan, S. Wise, R. Montante, L. Dennis, MSG Brox, MSG McCready, Osdeik (Oz), Perry (who I later ran into @ The Pentagon around '89). Others that I've lost touch with: S. Burch from AIT, stationed at Pirm - from somewhere around Detroit. D. Poole from AIT, stationed in Munich - from O'Dessa, TX.

I loved it over there and have lots of great memories such as the little Italian place down in Vaihingen called Ristorante Harmonie. They made killer calzones and prosciutto pizza...and who would have thought that some of the best Chinese food in the world (and I've tried plenty!) would be found at the Bao Jing just up the street from Patch Barracks. We took the annual ski trips to AFRC Chiemsee, Berchtesgaten, Garmishe...dang, those were some good times!

just returned from Germany..vacation in Ettlingen home of the 78th Eng Bn..great thing happened..i met a girl (now woman about 58) that i knew when she was only 17..she and a bunch of her friends would hang out with us at the local disco..i never forgot her or where she lived..when to her hometown of Spielberg and had no problem finding where she used to live..an older woman was cleaning her porch and i asked about Ilse Ruf's family if they still lived there..i knew Ilse got married to a gi and moved to Georgia..the lady said ja and that Ilse was there..it happened that Ilse came to her garden and the older lady called her..40 years is a long time but she started to remember.she was surprised how much i still remembered and many of the names of the girls..i was invited to her house and met her husband..we talked for about 2 hours and then left because i had things to do since i was coming back home in 2 days..met her family..beautiful daughters.. i commented that one looked just like her when she was young..it was great ...i have always looked for friends and this is the second one i have found in Germany....bis spater

Flakkasernen area belongs now to the city Ludwigsburg (anc) - since yesterday the area of the former Flakkaserne of the city belongs. After negotiations for many years the sales contract with the Federal Institution for Immobilenaufgaben (Bima) was signed yesterday. On the area the development area "Hartenecker is to develop height". "that scarcely 18 hectares large areas offers best conditions, a various, to create high-quality living offer for all subpopulations", so to mayor Werner Spec after the signing of the agreement. About 1600 humans are to find on the Hartenecker height into a few years a new at home. Here among other things a ambitioniertes lasting energy concept is to be used according to the city hall boss. In sections is to be cultivated the area with multi-storey buildings, rows -, double and single family houses. How deeply the city for the area must actually reach into the bag will only show up, in a few years, if under the line is accounted for. According to Spec now a purchase price was agreed upon within the range of 8.25 million euro. Beyond that the Bima carries a lump sum of 2.5 million euro for the disposal of refuse dumps such as poisons, oil and asbestos, takes part in possible extra costs in the case of the abort of the buildings and during the gelaendeerschliessung. It profits however on the other hand, if the costs of retreating longwall system and development should fail lower than expected and from the number of marketed properties higher incomes result than so far at the basis put. With the development plan procedure - a concept already lies in the drawer -, starting now, is the local council at the course. The demolition works will begin the development of the area in August, are in the autumn 2008 to follow. According to Spec the first inhabitants on the Hartenecker height end of 2009 will be able to perhaps already draw in. Info.: Prospective customers for properties on the Hartenecker height can let themselves be already set on a vormerkliste. Great site. Reading the guestbook brings back some of the best times I had while serving. I was stationed at Nellingen Barracks with HQ CO, 94th Engineer Battalion in 1970. I made some great friendships. I hope you guys are still out there trucking.....Fitz
