Nürburgring - also known as "the Ring" by enthusiasts, is the name of a famous motorsport race track in near the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel, which is about 100 kilometres northwest of Mainz. The Nürburgring was the main venue for the German Grand Prix (part of the Formula One World Championship) from the 1950s to the early 1970s.
