40th Artillery Group (Redstone) (Photo submitted by Jim Ryan who served in Btry A, 1st Msl Bn, 333rd Arty) Private Henry Evenson of the Communication Section conducting a communications check from the Remote Firing Panel location to the Fire Control and Test Truck. The Remote Panel is located about 180 meters from the Missile. For an actual launch, the Panel would have been placed in a large and well-protected fox hole. Control of the Missile is transferred from the Fire Control Truck to the Remote Panel site shortly before launch. The Remote Panel site becomes the focal point of a launch, under the direct supervision of the Battery Commander, the Maintenance Chief Warrant Officer, and the ranking NCO of the Firing Section.
