I noticed that you have a page for dependent schools in Europe.  I also noticed that there wasn't to much information.

I did two tours with my children in Germany.  The first was from 1970 to 1973.  We were stationed in Bad Kissingen and lived in housing behind Daley Barracks/Mannteufel Kaserne(?).  Our children were 10, 9 and 6 when we got there.  At first they all went to the elementary school right there at Daley Barracks.  The following year (71) our eldest daughter went to the middle school in Schweinfurt, then the second daughter followed.  Our son spent all his time at Daley.

We returned to Germany in 1977 and stayed until retirement in 1980.  By the time we returned the girls were of high school age, one a senior and the other a junior.  I was on a HAWK site in Balesfeld which is outside of Pruem.  The girls went to school at the Bitburg American High School, obviously on the airbase at Bitburg.  Our son went to the middle school which was at Bitburg as well.  We lived in USAF quarters in the town of Pruem and the kids were bused into Bitburg on a daily basis.  They left quite early in the morning and returned in the late afternoon.

The girls are both graduates of BAHS and our son spent a year at the high school as well.

After our eldest graduated she wanted to stay in Germany with us.  One of the ways to do that was to continue in school.  I don't recall how we found out about the University of Maryland, Munich campus, but we did.  We gathered as much information about it as we could and then visited the campus during the summer of 1978.  The campus visit involved our daughter, a friend of hers who might go, our second daughter, our son, a miniature poodle, my wife and me.  All of us in a 1978 AMC Pacer station wagon with a trailer on the back for camping gear, luggage and food.

Much to our surprise they offered the same tuition assistance that stateside colleges offered as well as work study programs and loans.  Needless to say our daughter was enthralled.  She loved the idea of staying in Europe and going to school in Munich.

She went there for two full years and our second daughter went for one.  Surprisingly one of the children that our eldest daughter knew in Schweinfurt was also at the school. The dormitories at Munich were unused American government quarters.  Basically the exact same quarters we lived in in BK.  Our eldest daughter still maintains contact with the girls she went to school with at UMMC.  They had a ball as you can imagine.

I think there are some pictures around here somewhere but I'll have to look.
