          | I was a member of the U.S. Constabulary in Germany in 1948-50. I was in the 73rd. Armd. Ord. Maint. Bn. in Fritzlar. I had a little to do with sports for the Bn so I was at all of the companies. We serviced 1st. 2nd. and 3d. Maint. for all vehicles including M-8 Armd. cars M-24 and M26 Tanks for the 14th Armd Calvary 1st.Bn. which was at the base on the other side of town. 14th A.C... and those guys could screw them up. I was in charge of unservicable supply for weapons and vehicles and you name it. I had two German guys working for me. We were in a converted grain elevator on the opposite side of town frrom the base and we had our own club which was very popular with the 14th. We used their facilities at their post and they enjoyed the best club of the whole E.C. at our place. Our club was not recognized by the Army and so there were no restrictions to speak of. The only thing I didn't like as when there was a shack job in the bed next to me and I was trying to sleep off a hangover. I also still have my old Constab. blouse and my Ike jacket and some of the old language booklets for about 10 different languages and one of the original Constabulary Handbooks too. |
