US Army barracks at Castelnuova, Italy - L to R: Jack Siebman; Gary Chilton; and William Chakeres, 1957. The barracks were to the right of the picture. The compound was built by the Germans during WWII as a supply depot and disguised as a fake church steeple, which was damaged during the war. There was a transmitter site located in the compound, however we did not know whether this was the primary or back-up communications site for the Verona Passalaqua base -- it was off-limits.
