At the time of the photo, this kaserne housed the Heidelberg Military Post headquarters. A few years later, in 1961, Headquarters Central Army Group would move to this kaserne from Campbell Barracks. The building on the right, behind the main gate, would serve as the CENTAG headquarters building.
