Comments My father, Walter Bent, served with the 24th Constabulary, E Troop, from 1947-49 in Linz, Austria. He passed away in 1999. He often spoke of his experiences in those days. I still treasure all of his photos showing him in his uniform.

Comments Wish I had thought to look for this site sooner! It's superb! I served in the 7689 Hq Co at Camp Truscott, Salzburg from 1951-1953 with Spring of 1953 at Livorno where the first "huge" computer was just being implemented. My job was with Quartermast POL. It would be great to see more photos of Truscott and to hear from anyone that we might remember each other. I might have some useful photos. How do I send them? Hope to hear from someone! Keep up the great work!

The 1st Battalion had just been pulled off the line after suffering a great many casualties in the battle fought at Hatten, France. Hq. Co. and Co. "A" of the 1st Bn. 242nd Inf Regt. set up "residence" in a one street village named Lubey Court, France where they reorganized. Lt. Col. Edwin Rusteberg was our Bn. Cmdr. Maj. Bradish Smith was the Bn. Exec. Off. Capt. Stephen Brzica was the CO of Hq. Co. and Lt. John Smith was the Platoon Leader, Antitank Platoon. All of the members of the Antitank Platoon, except for 2 of the ton and a half antitank 57mm prime mover truck drivers and the platoon leader and his jeep driver were missing in action on 9 January 1945 during the battle fought at Hatten. The 1st Battalion, greatly outnumbered by the enemy, had been instructed by higher headquarters to "Hold at all costs!", and, they did! Because of the gallantry the mem
