Comments Found this iste by accident and glad I did too! My father, Gerald (Jerry) Gauthier was first stationed at camp McCauley, Linz in June of 1949, Zell-Am-Zee in 1950, he became the Bn Msgt of the 70th engineers-combat, from 1949-1952. He returned to Austria in 1954 ans was with the 7620th tactical Cmd, from Feb 1954-April 1956, Camp Roeder. He left Austria and then went to Korea and after a short stay Red Stone, we in 1963 went to Augsburg, germany were he was stationed with the 24th Inf Div, we returned to the US in August of 1967 where he was stationed with a guard unit in Lima, Ohio, he retired in 1969 just after i had joined. As I told Mr. King, I ran into a unit of the 70th engineers in Nam, but they didn't know anything about the unit being in Austria. Some of the information might be a little off, he wrote everything down but you try and read his writing, although I think I have all right. I would like to find a friend of his, Edward Dixon, also with the 70th engineers, if anyone has any information on Dixon, please contact me,

Comments Thanks for this great web-side. I am doing research about the in Austria socalled "B-Gendarmerie" (=Gendarmerie Increase Program), which was supported from the US-Army 1952-1955 and I would be very happy, if anyone can give me information about this program (Salzburg Tripartite Committee, training e.g.)and perhaps about the 1996 in Austria discovered arms caches.

Comments I arrived at 63rd Sig Bn in Aug 1953 on the day they were moving from Cp Truscott to Cp Roeder. Served as Radio Officer in A Company (CPT Whistler) In Apr 1954 went to 21st Sig Co in Cp Darby, Italy where I was fixed station radio officer. Had to laugh at comment above about 351st Inf coming to Darby from Trieste to demobilize. The 351st had chrome plated mess kits and canteens. When the men of the 21st Sig saw that they thought "Wow, that will be great for inspections." So they traded gear with the Infantry. This went unnoticed by our company commander. A month or so later we had an IG inspection and all the chrome gear was declared unserviceable.

Comments I was in the 202 MP Company in Salzburg in 1955. I was there when Austria got their independence. I was transfered to Straubing, Germany to the 793 MP Company. While in Salzburg our barracks were right behind the Provost Marshall's office. I'm glad I found this sight. If anyone remembers me please write.

Comments Your pictures of Oberammergau in the 1950s brought back many memories. I was a dependent there from 1960 to 1962, and it had changed very little from the early 50's. My father (Harold W. Smith) taught at the Intel school during those years.

Comments Walter, I'm really glad you decided to stay in tontact. This site will be a valuable resource for the lineage of units that I chronicle in Germany. Particularly, USA Field Station Augsburg traces its lineage back to Field Station Bad Aibling which was formed from a unit that migrated from Austria in 1956 (approx.) I'll link it in to this site and refer to it often since Austria is probably my favorite country outside of the USA.
