Comments While in Salzburg 1945-46, I became GOOD friends with a 'Displaced Person' named JOSEF. He lived near the end of the tunnel. He was probably 13 to 15 years old. I think he was czech. I will pay $500 for someone to help me find him. d

Comments Great site with fascinating stories. My father was in the British army and served in Austria 1952 -1955. I remember when we were stationed in Vienna that my parents had a number of friends in the US Army NCOs club which they visited regularly. My most memorable recollection was of a tri service (the Russians wouldn't take part, or possibly weren't invited!)sports event at the British barracks at Schonbrun. I don't know who won, but one of the American Sgts wouldn't join in the drinking afterwards as his wife wouldn't let him. A tin bath was filled with beer and he was dumped in it fully clothed. Wonder how he explained that one to his wife. Keep up the good work on the site. John

Comments good for you guys, especially for all the veterans who were stationed in austria after april 1945. one of the many afro-american soldiers stationed near Linz, maybe Steyr, must be my father. never was able to trace him down, my mother who lives in salzburg, still keeps silent at the age of 78. unfortunately my childhood was a disgrace in this beautiful country. i was pushed around from one home to another and in salzburg, i spent five years with foster parents. because of my color the austrian spit in my face, called me chocolate and told me to wash myself with a soap by the name of LUX.. which was part of my mothers maiden name (stefanie luxbauer, in case somebody might remember her) she was a nurse in linz, but only 18 years old when she was raped (or not)... i wish i was made out of love...and had me at 19. my birthdate is march 16th. 1946. in case anybody remembers this date.. nobody speaks or mentions anything about that negative part of the occupation! especially the austrians, for whom we were a minority..and there fore

Comments I was Chief Clerk in Gen Clark's private office the first half of 1946 having been with the 65th Div when they took Linz at wars end. It has been over a year that I found this great web site. Since then I have been "talking" to several Vets that I found in the guest book. I just wrote to two sons of Vets who wanted information about their fathers. I think that this is a great opportunity for the young to get to know the old. I have also been in contact with Austrians who have written in the guest book. I am having a ball remembering my six months in Vienna.

Comments I am a member of USFA. I would apperciate help from anyone knowing of or of the whereabouts of a former USFA veteran. I was with the 42nd. Rainbow Div. as Regimental Interpreter 222 Inf. Regt. and at wars end I was assigned to USFA-Vienna Area Command to work with Sgt.W.Shepard. We both worked (ran) the enlisted mans hotel Egelaender, located at Franz Josef Bahnhof in the XVIII Bezirk- Wahring. (Heiligenstaedterstrasse) If anyone thinks he/she might know him ,I have a Photo of the two of us that I can supply. If my memory serves me correctly,I believe he came from the Mid-West Thanks for the help.
