Comments I was born in Salzburg 1944. I'm an Austrian. My youth was accompanied by friendly americans who gave us food and support (they came to our school and served food). 1946 American military in Salzburg gave my Dad a job at the Salzburg radio station (Sendergruppe rot-weiss-rot) and I'd like to admit that we had survived due to the american friends. They gave us hope and freedom. I' ll never forget that. 20 years later I did my obligatory one year military service in the austrian army and for basic training was stationed first at Camp Truscott (later Kaserne Glasenbach) and moved then to Camp Roeder (Kaserne Siezenheim). That camp was paradise for us. This entry is dedicated to all US-veterans who where stationed in Salzburg. You came as victors, helped us to get through dark poor postwar years, brought us back on our own feet, encouraged us to follow the path of democracy and tolerance and left as friends. Decades later I had the pleasure to work for the US concern Corning Inc. Good Bless America ! With grateful greetings, Hermann

Comments USFA came to re-establish AUSTRIA when I was only 5 years old, but I realized soon how important your mission was. Afterwards I have seen some USFA installations. When USFA left in 1955 I saw the final parades in VIENNA. Again, thank you. I would appreciate if you could send us a short article about USFA to be published in the 'Blue Helmet News', a publication of the Austrian Blue Helmet Association. Sincerely, Alfred C. Lugert, Colonel, Austrian Armed Forces Reserve, Vice President of the Austrian Blue Helmet Association

Comments I am Captain Fred Nace, US Army and am assigned for one year to US Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic. I am attempting to coordinate the participation of our military members in all of the wonderful events commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the liberation of Western Bohemia,Czechoslovakia during April and May 2005. I cannot coordinate individual plans for veterans wishing to attend, but I would like to contact those who plan to attend. A list of known events will soon be posted at the embassy website (www.usembassy.cz) and some information is already available on a sight by the city of Plzen (Pilsen) (www.pilsen2005.com). One of the things I will do is compile a list of those planning to attend and forward them updates to the activities as we receive information, especially those functions where the Czech people have indicated they want to host American veterans. Also, the Czech government does plan to issue a commemorative medal to veterans of the liberation. This is not a US Government project, but I am able to help co

Comments I was stationed in Trieste with the 351st Inf, Div. 3rd Bat., "I" Co. at San Govanni. I was a short-timer when we left Trieste so I was sent to Camp Rucker,Al. therefore missing the opportunity to go to Austria. Some of the guys in "I" Co. were sent to Austria but I don't know which installation. I thought I might find someone by looking through this site. This is a great site, very informative with great photos. Thanks for making all of this possible. Dennis

Comments I wanted to sign the guestbook again as my email address has changed. I was stationed at St. Johann Austria with Fox Company of the 2nd Bat. 349th Infantry Regiment in 1954 and 1955. In 1955 was stationed briefly at Camp Roeder until we shipped out to Taylor Barracks in Mannheim Germany. Have yet to see the names of any of my friends on the site but keep hoping.
