Excellent site. I was impressed by all of the information gathered for all of the Units in Germany. I was stationed at Buckenberg Kaserne in Pforzheim during 1978 and 1979 as a Military Police tower rat and made many great friends during my stay. Thank you for providing this site.

Great site, lots of history, lived in FRG as a child 1957-1960, Stuttgart and Worms. As a soldier 1978-1981 at 512th Maint Co in Mannhiem, 1985-1989 at 8th ID Hqs in Bad Kreuznach and with Co B 3rd/202nd Spt Bn 8th ID and with 51st Maint Bn HQs in Mannheim.
Seemed like USAREUR would go on forever, it is definitely down-sized today, but your site does help us recall what an extensive lifestyle and culture existed over all the post-WWII cold war years. Thanks. Terry

Many GI-childrens in Germany are trying to locate their biological american fathers. I thought it was a good idea to create a website where searches from the GI-childrens, Veterans looking for their german children and siblings looking for their german half-siblings could post their dates. If you served for the US-military in Germany, you might have the chance to find your child on the website.. All GI-childrens are interested in family background information, medical history and would like to reunite with their american fathers and the american families. Nobody has any financial interest.

If you have served in Germany during your time in the service and had a loveaffair/ relationship with a “german Fraulein” and you think, there is a possiblility that you fathered a child, then you found the right site to post your search or find a match for your child.

Just found this site. I Spec 5 Demo and was stationed with the 317th in 1968 - 1970. Looking for all the guys. Jan Hunhowser, J.M. Peters, Terry Sheets, and all the others whose names I can recall right now. Would love to hear from some of you. Had heard the 317th was no longer in Germany however did not know what had happened to it until I read the history.

I agree - great website...but I am still waiting to connect with someone from Schweinfurt 71-74 C 2/30th 3rd Inf- hard to believe that I am the only one trying to locate and reconnect with any of those guys - enlisted, NCO's or officer's!
It might of been some rough times with bad memories, and believe me I was involved with enough of those - it was a great group of guys that I was with --from the Vietnam Vets in the first few months to the "New Army" guys at the end - we were all "brothers" in the barracks from the field alerts and trainings at Wildflicken, Hohenfelds to Graf to the bars and guest houses in Schweinfurt...My thoughts and prayers are with you guys - I turned my life around and now live a new life free from Alcohol & Drugs but I think about many of you and what we experienced and on Feb 1st as I celebrated 31 years clean and sober ( St Paul, MN VA Hospital 1978) I am proud that I served with you guys at Charile Company 1st squad 2/30th.

Was on TDY at signal school in Ansbach, guard duty at Boblingen, manuvers at Grafenwohr. Interesting tour of duty, managed to squeeze in some fun from time to time in between the GI stuff.

Hi, I am trying to find my father's father. We don't have any information on him except a picture and that he was stationed at Hoechst Frankfurt Germany in 1952. I have a picture and would be glad to show it to you if you know any information on that Kaserne or have family that was stationed there at that time. I need to learn more about the units that were stationed there at that time. Although we are not too familiar with the uniform in those days, it seems that he is wearing his Class B's for the picture and has a crest on his right shoulder tab that is white with a maroon stripe down the middle. There could also be a star on the crest but it is hard to make out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please write back if you know anything.

So when i was a child i´ll only got contact with russian and hell i dont liked them that much. So after the wall tumbled down my interessting in the usa and us services grow constantly with my age. Now im 28 and i had read n seen a lot bout usa and american millitary. Last book was about 1st marines on road to bagdad. I´ll got plenty of respect and love for all you us guys. Your fahters and grandpas did a great job in clearin this
wonderful country from these god **** nazis. And after that you´ll became good friends to your former enemys. Everytime i´ll travel around in my country ill go to take a look at army facillities etc. You´ll also do a great job "over there" To everyone who is there right now and to all of you

That 280 mm Automic Cannon was one hell of a peice of machinery and, as big as it was, us T-10 drivers did not have any problems putting it in place wherever our CO, Capt Richard R. Edwards wanted it put. Happy New year to you & yours and ALL concerned.

Got curious about my dad's old unit, 541st Engineer Company (Float Bridge), 1959-1963

Where are you from?
Austin, Texas--Ph.D. Candidate in Foreign Language Education at UT-Austin

Do you have any comments?
I saw this and think it's possibly a typo and should read "1959," not "1969." My late father, SFC Carlos Villarreal, WWII and Korean War vet, was the Mess Sergeant of the 541st Engineer Company (Float Bridge) at Tompkins Barracks. I attended Patrick Henry Village Elementary School. I still recall my dentist, Captain Buttner, and met his relative at UT-Austin (small world)! Would enjoy hearing from folks who served with my dad (or later on, with me: I'm a 1976 Citadel grad and served in the Regular Army, Texas Army National Guard, and Army Reserve).
Here's the passage with the suspected typo:
"The colors of the 549th did not unfurl for some 22 years until June 9, 1969, when they again proudly flew at Tompkins Barracks, Schwetzingen. The 549th Engineer Battalion was then activated with four American engineer companies -- the 541st (Float Bridge), the 522nd (Float Bridge), the 530th (Panel Bridge), and the 535th (Light Equipment). The Battalion also had two labor service companies -- the 8591st (Float Bridge), and the 8592nd (Bridge Maintenance)."

I am posting this message for my wife Patricia. She was born in Erlangen in January 56 to Maria Hollacher. Her mother was a house keeper in the military housing section in Erlangen. Her dads name is Theodore R. Davis with the last three service digits 599. We traveled to Germany in 2005 found and met her mother. Now is the time to find her dad. My wife was adopted by MSG Bill Fielding and his wife Ruth in 1956 and later returned to th US. Her dad was stationed somewhere around Erlangen in 55. All information would be greatly appreciated as he would be around 70 years old at this time.

Dear Brigade veterans,

I am a member of Troop 46 "Freedom Outpost" in Berlin, Germany. Our earliest documents indicate that our troop was founded in Berlin around 1952.

After 55 years, we still continue to meet at the former American Community Chapel on Hüttenweg 46 and we are planning a BSA Historical Camporee in the spring of 2009 in celebration of the 60th aniversary of the Berlin Airlift.

We are currently collecting historical information about our Troop. If any Berlin Brigade veterans were ever involved in Troop 46, have stories and photos to share, please do email me! We would love to hear from you. We may even post the information on our website:

www.scoutlander.com/publicsite/unithome.aspx?UID=475.
