January 1, 2004 Happy NEW YEAR !

Posted several emails: Michael W. Dane, 94th ADA Gp GOC, Bann Hill (Command & Control section, 94th AAA Gp Page); Charles W. Talley, 1/1st ADA BOC, Fulda then Wildflecken (10th AAA Gp Page). Added a photo of one of the buildings on Gerszewski Barracks sporting a German eagle from the Wehrmacht days and the name "Rhein Kaserne" (Karlsruhe Page). Photo was originally taken by Don Morton in 1963. Also added photos submitted by Ronald Smaller to the Pirmasens Signal Depot Page and additional Redstone photos submitted by Ron Smith (40th Arty Gp Page).
January 2, 2004 Posted a link (Frankfurt Page) to a great German web site that presents the post-war history of Frankfurt from the viewpoint of the enormous construction efforts that were undertaken to rebuild the war-ravaged city. Lots of great photos!
January 3, 2004 Posted several STARS & STRIPES articles: on French troops who augmented the 11th Armd Cav at Camp Whalen near Passau for awhile in the 1960s (11th ACR Page); on the SETAF RTO in 1956 and the Frankfurt RTO in 1963 (1st TMCA Page, Transportation section); on the hospital trains operated by the 57th Med Bn in 1956 (9th Hosp Cen Page, Medical section).
January 6, 2004 Created the USAH Nürnberg Page (Army Hospitals section) and posted several items of history on the page. Will add several great pics showing damage to the hospital sustained at the end of the war and the front page of the hospital's newspaper from 1945 later today.
January 10, 2004 Posted some nice photos of an unidentified kaserne in Regensburg from the mid-1960s (Regensburg Page). Please contact me if you can identify the kaserne. Also added an article on the 116th Gen Hosp that appeared in the STARS & STRIPES in Jan 1946 (USAH Nürnberg Page, Army Hospitals section).
January 11, 2004 Added to the list of National Guard/Army Reserve units that were returned to the United States and replaced by Regular Army units in the 1953-1955 period (Seventh Army Page). Posted a STARS & STRIPES article on the 49th and 53rd RCAT Dets (34th AAA Bde Page). Also added the Seventh Army Troop List for 30 June 1956 (Seventh Army Page). Still need to finish adding the home stations.

January 27, 2004 Posted a very interesting list of incidents and resulting casualties that occurred during the 45 years of the Cold War in Europe. The struggle between the Soviet Union and its Communist allies and the United States involved numerous hostile encounters worldwide and claimed at least 357 American lives by enemy action (HQ USAREUR Page).
January 28, 2004 The USAREUR History Office has posted three USAREUR Station Lists in PDF format in the 'Publications Section' of their web site: 30 Sept 1963; 31 Dec 1963; and 31 Dec 1967. Added a link (Related Links Page) to an interesting on-line report (dated 2001) issued by the State of Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. In this report by the Ministry of Commerce, Transportation, Agriculture and Viticulture, several examples are presented of the many conversion efforts that have taken place to restructure former military facilities for civilian use. Many of the former US Army and Air Force facilities and housing areas have thus been turned into commercial parks, technology centers, facilities for higher education and residential areas. (Report is in German, but the accompanying photos are also interesting.)
