Bill Lavery's re-enlistment.
The ceremony took place in the Battalion CO’s office, LTC Latella.
In regards to the 501st Aviation Battalion, 1st Armd Div Page: An email from Robert Quillen states “Some of the data provided below needs to be checked i.e. D Trp 1/1 Cav.”

I was originally assigned to C Co 501st ABC in Illesheim, Germany in June of 1985. If I recall correctly in the spring of 1987 C Co 501st ABC was deactivated and the colors cased. The unit was redesignated as the 10th AHB or Attack Helicopter Battalion. In the spring of 1988 the 10th AHB was deactivated.

Personnel with time remaining in Germany were reassigned to the reorganized 1/1 CAV which moved from Schwabach to Katterbach. Aviation personnel from HHC, A Co, B Co and C Co 10th AHB formed D Trp, C Trp and the AVUM platoon of HHT 1/1 CAV.

The 1/1 CAV reorganized from strictly an armored CAV Squadron to a 2x2 CAV Squadron consisting of 2 Air Troops (AH-1 Cobras and OH-58 Kiowas) and 2 Ground Troops ( M113's, M60 tanks and eventually Bradley Fighting Vehicles).

I was an Aero Scout Platoon Section Sgt with D Trp 1/1 CAV from the reorganization in 1988 until the deactivation of the entire Squadron after returning from Desert Storm in 1991, when I was transferred to A Co 2-1 AVN untill my ETS in Feb 1993.

Sorry I don’t have specific dates, but I hope this info can shed some light on the history of both C Co 501st ABC and D Trp 1/1 CAV.

Found your web page on the 10th Attack Helicopter Battalion. I was in C, 501st AB(C) when we reorganized as the 10th AHB.

I was Platoon Leader of 2nd Platoon under Co C. I was the first Bn S-2 of the battalion working for MAJ Bert Lennon, the BN XO. LTC Don Latella was the Bn Cdr and we stood up in Feb 1986 right after REFORGER ‘86.

I PCS’d back to the States in Mar 1987.

Hope this helps.
