European Command - Occupation Period; EUCOM replaced USFET
US Constabulary maintained general military and civil security in the US Zone of Occupation



On 1 August 1952, the three European commands -- U.S. Naval Forces, Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean; U.S. Air Forces in Europe; and European Command (subsequently redesignated as USAREUR) -- were combined under a "new" joint headquarters, the United States European Command (USEUCOM)
On 1 August 1952, Headquarters EUCOM in Heidelberg was redesignated Headquaters US Army, Europe. USAREUR absorbed most of the former EUCOM staff and assumed most of the functions previously performed by EUCOM
